A Heady Mix of Raw Alternative Rock Vocals, Laced with Hypnotising Riffs and a Gritty Backbone

Drawing influence from a wide scope of music, the band infuses edgy rock with metal and punk, adding a touch of African groove to spice things up. The stop-start rhythms often draw comparisons with System of a Down, but the influences stretch further to the melodic vocals, chugging rhythm guitars and searing solos of 90s era grunge music.

The band was created in 2005, by brothers Ryan and Wes Niemandt, who originate from Zimbabwe. Simon  Buckett joined on bass in 2008,  and Joe Preston on guitars was added to the line-up in 2018. The band soon developed a passionate following and they released their first EP Into the Sun in 2007. This was followed by Diaspora in 2009, which was well received by the press and fans.

The band’s self-titled album Kamikaze Test Pilots produced by Bobby Bloomfield (50 Cent/Linkin Park/P Diddy) was released via Matchbox Recordings with digital distribution from Universal Music Operations. Released in November 2012, the album received much praise.

Their latest album Stealing Chameleons, was launched on 22 November 2017, produced by Enrico Tiberi and mastered by Pete Maher (U2). Available on every major digital platform, the album has won the band numerous plaudits.

Playing live is the mainstay of Kamikaze Test Pilots and they frequently play gigs across the country. In the past, the band has supported Nick Oliveri (Queens of the Stone Age), toured Europe and Africa, and featured in many festivals – notably Miombo Magic Festival and Bloodstock in 2018.

Kamikaze Test Pilots are a force to be reckoned with in the underground music scene. With airtime on international and independent stations as well as the BBC; features on music blogs and zines, in addition to live show bookings across the UK and Europe – 2019 looks set to be another big year for the band.
